About GYROTONIC®

Gold Line Pilates is proud to offer the GYROTONIC METHOD®.
It is available only at the Pasadena location as a one-on-one private session with experienced instructors Erika and Allisyn.

The GYROTONIC METHOD® is a unique movement system combining elements of yoga, dance, gymnastics, tai chi, and swimming. It is designed to improve strength, flexibility, coordination, and range of motion. Created by Juliu Horvath, a former professional dancer, GYROTONIC® exercises focus on fluid, spiral, and circular movements rather than linear or static ones. The goal is to work the entire body in a harmonious, owing manner.

Key Features of the GYROTONIC METHOD®:

  1. Circular Movements: Three-dimensional movements emphasizing natural spirals and rotations, which help enhance joint mobility.
  2. Breath Coordination: Each movement is paired with a specific breathing pattern to promote rhythm, relaxation, and energy flow.
  3. Specialized Equipment: Exercises are often performed on a GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® machine which offer resistance while supporting fluid motion.
  4. Core Engagement: The exercises strengthen the core and improve spinal mobility.
  5. Focus on Whole-Body Connection: Movements aim to engage muscles, fascia, and the nervous system holistically.
  6. Benefits:
  • Improved posture and spinal alignment
  • Low impact
  • Increased strength and flexibility
  • Enhanced joint mobility and range of motion
  • Better balance, coordination, and body awareness
  • Stress relief and improved breath control

The GYROTONIC METHOD® is a versatile movement system that can benefit a wide range of people, regardless of age, fitness level, or physical condition. Its adaptability and low-impact nature make it accessible for various populations.

Who Practices GYROTONIC®?

Dancers and Performing Artists

Many dancers incorporate GYROTONIC® exercises to enhance flexibility, core strength, and range of motion while protecting their joints. It improves grace, coordination, and fluidity, which directly complements dance techniques. Founder Juliu Horvath developed GYROTONIC METHOD® initially to aid dancers recovering from injuries.

GYROTONIC® Jumping-Stretching Board

Gold Line Pilates features two GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM® apparatus; the GYROTONIC® Pulley Tower and the GYROTONIC® Jumping- Stretching Board.

The GYROTONIC® PULLEY TOWER is the central piece of equipment used in the GYROTONIC METHOD®. It is a specialized machine designed to facilitate the owing, circular, and spiraling movements that are fundamental to GYROTONIC® exercises. The tower's design allows for smooth and continuous motion, providing resistance while also supporting the body to move freely and naturally

Key Components of the GYROTONIC® Pulley Tower:

Pulley System:
The pulleys are connected to adjustable weights, which create smooth and variable resistance. The system allows users to move through a wide range of motion with minimal impact on the joints.

Rotational Handles (also called "handle units"):
These ergonomic handles can rotate and move in multiple directions. They are used to guide the arms, shoulders, and spine through circular and spiral movements.

Bench or Seat:
Users can perform seated, standing, or lying-down exercises, depending on the movement goals. The bench can often be adjusted to accommodate different body positions and exercises.

Adjustable Weights:
The resistance can be fine-tuned to match the user's strength and desired level of challenge.

How It Works:

  • The GYROTONIC® Pulley Tower's design supports the body through three-dimensional movements, allowing for fluid and dynamic exercises.
  • Unlike traditional gym equipment, which often isolates muscle groups, the GYROTONIC® Pulley Tower works the entire body as a connected system, improving strength, flexibility, and coordination simultaneously.
  • It enables spiral and circular motions, which are particularly beneficial for spinal health, joint mobility, and overall functional movement.

The GYROTONIC® Jumping-Stretching Board is a specialized piece of equipment in the GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM®.

It is designed to provide a unique, dynamic exercise experience that combines strength, flexibility, coordination, and cardiovascular conditioning. This apparatus enables users to perform fluid, three-dimensional movements while incorporating jumping, stretching, and resistance-based exercises.

Sliding Platform:

A smooth, sliding platform allows users to perform gliding and jumping motions with minimal impact on the joints. It encourages fluid, low-impact movements that mimic actions like leaping or pushing off while staying connected to the equipment.

Adjustable Resistance:

Resistance can be customized to match the user's strength and movement goals. The adjustable tension enables controlled, precise movements and progressive training.

Support Bars and Handles:

Bars and handles provide additional stability, allowing users to perform a variety of exercises in standing, seated, or lying-down positions.

Dynamic Jumping and Stretching:

Movements on the board emphasize a balance of dynamic jumping and elongating stretches, creating a fluid and integrative exercise experience.

How It Works:

  • The GYROTONIC® Jumping-Stretching Board enables users to simulate jumping, lunging, and pushing-off movements in a controlled, supported environment.
  • Unlike high-impact exercises, the machine minimizes stress on the joints while improving functional strength, core stability, and flexibility.
  • The sliding board allows for horizontal and vertical movements, while the resistance provides continuous feedback and muscle engagement.
